New Build School – Customised Lighting Truss, Video Projection and Multiple Sound Systems

This new build project required sound, lighting and video that would be suitable for school use, drama productions and third parties such as the cinema society.

There is no permanent stage for drama, so the client needed the flexibility to configure the room in almost any orientation. We provided custom-made aluminium trussing in the roof to allow for lighting positions anywhere in the room, such as ‘theatre in the round’. One challenging aspect of the installation was that the building was faceted (approximating to a curve), so the truss itself also had to be faceted.

We have provided two individual sound systems in the main hall; one permanently built into the room for assemblies and lecture-style events, and a larger system for drama productions and visiting performers which features a professional quality mixer. Loudspeakers and mixing desks were also provided for music classrooms and the recording studio was equipped with a custom made wooden control desk, mixer and other equipment.

We worked with project managers and teaching staff from the early stages of the build, honing a broad brief into place as work progressed. This enabled us to precisely meet the school’s requirements and integrate the components of the installation seamlessly with the fabric of the building.
